(Homefirst) recently received a $10,000 donation from the Lena Willis Mission Endowment Fund of Central Presbyterian Church in Summit New Jersey. The donation will be used to support Homefirst’s housing and family support programs.
“It is a privilege and pleasure to make this donation to Homefirst. Central Presbyterian Church is extremely thrilled to support their efforts to address issues of homelessness and poverty in Union County,” said Kevin Hill, co-chair of Central Presbyterian’s Mission and Endowment Team. “We are certain this award will make a difference in the lives of the working poor, disabled, homeless and those at-risk of being homeless.”
Homefirst has 50 housing units throughout Union County that are occupied by low-income families, families with a disabled family member, or families who were recently homeless. All residents receive additional support services, such as case management, medical referrals, benefits counseling, job coaching, transportation and food vouchers.
Homefirst’s family support program also operates the Plainfield Family Support Center and the Hillside Family Success Center, which are family-focused gathering places where any community member can receive family support, resources and information. In 2017, Homefirst served close to 600 families through their family support unit.
“Homefirst is honored that the Lena Willis Mission selected Homefirst for this donation in recognition of the work that we do to help end homelessness in Union County,” said Rev. Ronald Thomas, president of Homefirst’s Board of Trustees. “In this era of declining government support for programs that provide a pathway out of poverty, we are grateful for the support from the faith community and we are happy to add Central Presbyterian Church to our list of supporters.”
Established in 1994, the Lena Willis Mission Endowment Fund is part of Central Presbyterian Church’s Members in Mission and Hand-On Mission Teams.
